How To Make Candles Last Longer

A candle instantly changes the atmosphere of a room. It adds warmth, calm, and light to any moment. To keep your candles burning beautifully and for as long as possible, a little care goes a long way. With the right habits, you can make every candle last longer and enjoy its soft glow again and again.

Trim The Wick Before Every Burn
Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about five millimetres. A shorter wick helps the flame stay steady and prevents smoke or soot from forming on the glass. It also ensures the candle burns evenly and slowly. If you see black smoke after lighting, blow it out, trim the wick again, and relight for a clean burn.

Let The Wax Melt Evenly
During the first burn, allow the entire top layer of wax to melt before blowing the candle out. This helps prevent tunnelling, where the wax burns straight down the middle and leaves a ring of unused wax around the edge. Taking your time on the first burn sets the shape for every one that follows.

Avoid Drafts
Keep your candle away from open windows, fans, or air vents. A flickering flame burns unevenly and melts the wax faster on one side. A stable flame not only looks better but also helps your candle last longer.

Burn In Moderation
Candles should ideally be burned for three to four hours at a time. After that, extinguish the flame and let the wax cool before lighting it again. Long continuous burns can cause the wick to move or lean, which affects how evenly the candle burns. Shorter sessions will keep both the wax and wick in good shape.

Keep The Glass Clean
After each burn, check the inside of the glass. Any soot or residue can be easily removed once the wax has cooled. Use warm water and gentle soap to wipe it clean. Whether your Lumée candle is in clear, amber, or coloured glass, keeping it spotless lets the light shine clearly through and keeps your candle looking fresh.

Extinguish Gently
Instead of blowing out the candle, use a snuffer or dip the wick into the melted wax using a small tool, then lift it upright again. This avoids smoke and helps keep the wick ready for the next use. It’s a simple, clean way to end each burn.

Store Candles Correctly
If you’re not using your candle for a while, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Natural waxes like beeswax can soften or fade slightly if exposed to heat or bright light for too long. Storing them properly protects their colour, scent, and texture.

Choose Quality
Natural wax candles, especially those made from pure beeswax, generally last longer than synthetic options. They burn cleaner, slower, and give off a warm, steady glow. Choosing quality materials means you get more hours of light and a better experience every time you burn your candle.

Looking after your candles doesn’t take much effort, but it makes a big difference. By trimming the wick, keeping the glass clean, and burning them thoughtfully, you’ll get the most out of every candle you own. Lumée candles are made from natural beeswax and hand-poured into durable glass vessels. With a bit of care, they will keep glowing softly for many evenings to come.
